Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Iranian state television confirmed that the meeting took place, while U.S. President Donald Trump said talks between the U.S. side and the Iranian delegation lasted about three hours and described the meeting as very good.
The meeting came as Washington and Tehran intensified diplomatic contacts in an effort to address outstanding issues and reduce tensions between the two sides.
The Iranian side said Araghchi presented Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade and the release of frozen Iranian funds.
Trump said talks with Iran were continuing and expressed his belief that a settlement could be reached, while reaffirming Washington’s opposition to Iran possessing nuclear weapons.

Intensive diplomatic moves in New York
The meeting was one of the most significant direct contacts between U.S. and Iranian officials during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
The moves came as the Strait of Hormuz became one of the key issues in contacts between the two sides, amid diplomatic efforts to reach understandings that would ease tensions.
