One hundred commercial ships were diverted during the 60 days since the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz targeting Iran was reinstated. CENTCOM said the blockade has continued uninterrupted.
In its statement, CENTCOM said that no ship had passed through the blockade without authorization from U.S. forces. The command described the operation against Iran as a “steel wall” blockade.
The blockade’s implementation
The U.S. naval blockade targeting Iran began on April 13. Under an agreement between the two countries, its implementation was suspended on June 18.
After the basis for the agreement ceased to exist, the U.S. military announced that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz had resumed on July 14.
