Egypt, Greece and the Greek Cypriot administration issued a joint statement addressing the Palestinian issue, the reconstruction of Gaza and regional stability. The statement was released after a trilateral meeting held in the city of El Alamein in northern Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, President of the Greek Cypriot administration Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The parties expressed their determination to continue joint efforts to develop relations among their peoples and strengthen peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region.
Joint call for Palestine and Gaza
The joint statement expressed support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It said this goal should be achieved in line with United Nations resolutions.
Regarding Gaza, the statement emphasized the need to implement the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan, carry out United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, launch reconstruction and early recovery efforts, and deliver humanitarian aid to civilians.
The statement also called for preserving the geographical, political and legal link between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It rejected efforts to separate the two areas and forcibly displace Palestinians.
Lebanon and Libya
The parties called for an end to attacks on Lebanese territory and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the country. They said Lebanon's state authority and sovereignty should be established throughout the country by strengthening state institutions, particularly the armed forces.
Support for Libya's sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity was reiterated. The parties expressed support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, calling for the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries and the simultaneous holding of presidential and parliamentary elections.
Regional cooperation and maritime borders
The parties expressed their resolve to further develop the trilateral cooperation mechanism launched in Cairo in November 2014 on the basis of trust, respect and cooperation. They said regional security and stability should be supported, disputes and crises resolved through political and diplomatic means, and international law respected.
They said agreements and understandings on the delimitation of maritime borders should be concluded in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The meeting also addressed the development of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, tourism, education, culture, migration and labor. Security cooperation, combating organized crime and combating irregular migration were among the other issues on the agenda.
El-Sisi emphasized the importance of continuing to develop cooperation under the trilateral mechanism. Christodoulides and Mitsotakis expressed their resolve to strengthen joint efforts.
The parties agreed that the 11th trilateral summit would be held in the Greek Cypriot administration, but no date was announced.
