Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassem Albudaiwi met in Egypt’s city of El Alamein. Abdelatty said supporting the security and stability of the Gulf countries was one of the key elements of Egypt’s approach.
The meeting addressed institutional relations between Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council, regional developments and ways to advance economic cooperation.
Economic partnership areas to be expanded
Abdelatty said significant progress had been made in institutional relations between the two sides since the memorandum of understanding on political consultations was signed in February 2022 and the joint action plan covering the 2024–2028 period was adopted.
The Egyptian foreign minister also welcomed the first Egypt-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum, held in Cairo in November 2025. He said the momentum generated by the forum should be used to establish new partnerships in renewable energy, petrochemicals, the digital economy, artificial intelligence and the pharmaceutical industry.
Gulf security is part of Egypt’s national security
Abdelatty stressed that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries was an integral part of Egypt’s national security. He said Egypt supports measures to protect the security and stability of these countries, as well as the gains made by their peoples.
The Gulf Cooperation Council, comprising Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain, was established on May 25, 1981. The council is headquartered in Riyadh.

Jassem Albudaiwi praised Egypt’s support for regional security and stability and its efforts to resolve crises by reducing tensions. Albudaiwi also welcomed Egypt’s efforts to strengthen joint Arab action.
Albudaiwi further said that the Gulf Cooperation Council attaches importance to developing relations with Egypt and increasing consultation and coordination on issues of common interest.
