They discussed developing relations in Doha
The two leaders exchanged views on steps that could be taken to advance existing cooperation and develop relations in various fields. They also assessed several issues of mutual interest.
Haitham bin Tarik’s visit to Qatar took place as part of an agenda to develop cooperation between the two countries in various sectors. Qatar’s Emir Tamim was among the officials who welcomed and saw off the Sultan of Oman at Hamad International Airport.
A possible agreement on the Strait of Hormuz
The meeting came ahead of a possible agreement in the ongoing negotiations between Oman and Iran on the use and management of the Strait of Hormuz.
Feda Hussein Maliki, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Shura Council, said on Sunday that progress had been made in talks with Oman and that the agreement had reached the signing stage.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei also announced last Wednesday that an agreement had been reached with Oman on the geographical coordinates of a safe maritime corridor for commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Regional military tensions continue
Since February 28, waves of military clashes and cautious calm have continued side by side in the region. The Strait of Hormuz has become one of the prominent issues in the intermittent negotiations between the United States and Iran.
According to Iran’s statement, more than 3,000 people were killed as a result of US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. The Tehran administration said it had retaliated against the attacks and that some American and Israeli individuals had been killed.
Iran also announced that it had targeted military facilities and equipment in Gulf countries. While it was stated that civilians were killed and civilian facilities damaged in some of the attacks, the countries targeted condemned the attacks and called for them to stop.
