Footage has emerged of a ship allegedly targeted by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. The images, aired by Turkish media, show a large breach in the vessel's hull at the waterline, with seawater pouring in.
The ship's name, flag and the timing of the attack have not been disclosed, and the information could not be independently verified.
A string of attacks on shipping
The footage comes days after the Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride sank about 7.4 kilometers northwest of Oman's Musandam Peninsula after being hit by an unidentified munition. The IRGC said the vessel struck mines while using an "unauthorized" route; all 21 crew members were evacuated. The bulk carrier Cape Dao was also reported sinking, and the GFS Giselle was damaged in the same area.
On Oct. 17, the IRGC said a supertanker caught fire after hitting a mine in the strait. The Strait of Hormuz normally carries about a quarter of the world's seaborne oil trade. Iran effectively closed it after US and Israeli strikes on the country, and the United States has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
