The framework for a new majority in Moroccan politics was established through an agreement between the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), Istiqlal Party, Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).
A joint statement issued by the four parties said that the liberal-leaning PAM and conservative Istiqlal Party had joined the left-leaning USFP and PPS in the same political majority.
Program and ministerial candidates to be prepared
According to the joint statement, the government program will be prepared and made ready for implementation as soon as possible. Ministerial candidates will be nominated based on merit, political acumen and integrity.
The parties said they aimed to establish a strong and cohesive government.

Coalition reaches 207 seats
King Mohammed VI of Morocco had tasked Fatma Zahra Mansouri, leader of the PAM, which came first in the elections held on September 29 after winning 97 seats, with forming the government.
At least 198 seats are required for a government majority in Morocco’s 395-seat House of Representatives. In the elections, PAM won 97 seats, Istiqlal Party 65, USFP 26 and PPS 19.
This distribution gave the coalition formed by the four parties a total of 207 seats, allowing it to surpass the House majority threshold required for a vote of confidence.
