Hundreds of Palestinians on Sunday buried the remains of 75 people, including women and children, recovered in recent weeks from the rubble of homes destroyed by Israeli strikes in the Daraj neighbourhood in northeastern Gaza City, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
Wrapped in Palestinian flags, the remains were laid out on Saturday evening in a square outside the Daraj sports club so that relatives could say farewell. The funeral procession set off from there on Sunday morning with Civil Defence crews and community figures taking part, and the remains were buried at the Sheikh Radwan Cemetery.

Abdullah al-Majdalawi, director of public relations and media for the Civil Defence in Gaza City, told Anadolu that the houses were bombed with their residents inside during the first months of the war. He said the victims belonged to about 20 families who lived in the homes or had taken shelter there, and that recovery work faces serious difficulties because of a lack of heavy machinery and equipment.
The remains were found during the second phase of the Civil Defence’s body recovery project, launched on July 19. In the first phase, which began in November 2025, crews recovered the bodies or remains of 333 of 559 missing people. The agency estimates that more than 8,000 people are still missing under the rubble across Gaza.
Under the first phase of the ceasefire in force since Oct. 10, 2025, Israel was expected to allow heavy equipment into Gaza, but it has not done so, according to government bodies and Palestinian factions in the territory. More than 74,000 people have been killed and more than 175,000 injured in the war on Gaza.
