Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent exchanged statements on X about Iran’s spending abroad.
Bessent argued that the Iranian people were struggling to meet their basic needs and said the Iranian government continued to spend large amounts of money abroad. The U.S. Treasury secretary argued that these resources should be used for the Iranian people rather than transferring billions of dollars to terrorist proxies.
Ghalibaf accuses the U.S. administration
Ghalibaf, meanwhile, alleged that the U.S. administration was transferring billions of dollars to its terrorist proxies instead of allocating resources to its own people. The Iranian parliament speaker said the money could be spent on the American people and pointed to resources he alleged were being transferred to Israel and 750 military bases around the world.
Addressing Bessent directly, Ghalibaf said his reputation was at risk and called on the U.S. Treasury secretary to take action.
