Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called for national unity and support for the government to reduce the effects of economic pressure in a message published on the occasion of Government Week.
Ghalibaf said Iran was waging a comprehensive economic war and that intensive efforts were being made to limit its effects during this period. Referring to the problems caused by US economic pressure, Ghalibaf emphasized the importance of supporting the government under the current conditions.
Ghalibaf said the executive bodies were working effectively to maintain governance amid the effects of the economic war and pressure on the country, and stated that weaknesses needed to be addressed. He also claimed that the United States was mobilizing all its capabilities to increase pressure on the Iranian people.
Ghalibaf said the government would also succeed in this struggle with support from the public, the private sector and various other sectors, and called for national unity, solidarity and cooperation to overcome the current challenges.
Economic and military pressure on Iran

On Feb. 28, the United States and Israel carried out attacks against Iran. Iran responded with attacks targeting Israel and American targets in the region, and the sides later reached a ceasefire agreement in April.
Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz on June 18. However, implementation of the memorandum was disrupted because of disagreements over the strait’s security.
The United States resumed its attacks against Iran between July 8 and 24. Tehran carried out attacks on targets it identified as American military facilities and equipment in Arab countries.
