Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Egypt on August 13-14 for an official visit focused on Türkiye-Egypt relations, Gaza and regional crises. Fidan is expected to be received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and hold talks with senior Egyptian officials.
Fidan will support diplomatic efforts to restore the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He will emphasize the need to immediately end the attacks in Gaza, fully implement the ceasefire and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid.
The talks are expected to include the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza Peace Plan and an exchange of views on Israel’s attacks against Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. The parties will also discuss continuing joint efforts to bring lasting stability and security to Libya on the basis of its territorial integrity and political unity.
Fidan will reiterate Türkiye’s clear support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. The regional agenda of the visit will also include the contributions Türkiye and Egypt can make to establishing lasting peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
New steps for trade and defense cooperation
The visit will include an assessment of Türkiye-Egypt relations and the current status of agreements under negotiation. The talks will focus on steps to increase mutual investments in line with the goal of raising trade between the two countries to $15 billion.
Cooperation opportunities in hydrocarbons, electricity-grid integration, energy infrastructure and mining will be discussed. Possible steps to advance existing military and defense-industry cooperation will also be among the topics of the meetings.
Fidan will emphasize the importance of resolving regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy, based on regional ownership and shared responsibility. He will express the need to continue joint efforts on multilateral platforms, including the R4 initiative, which brings together the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Joint Planning Group to hold its second meeting
The second meeting of the Türkiye-Egypt Joint Planning Group will be held under the co-chairmanship of Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.
The meeting will review the outcomes of the second session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, held in Cairo in February. Preparations for the third meeting, which is planned to take place in Türkiye, will also be discussed; the third meeting is scheduled for 2028.
High-level contacts boost trade volume
High-level contacts and reciprocal visits between Türkiye and Egypt have increased momentum in bilateral relations. Badr Abdelatty visited Türkiye on November 12, 2025, for the first meeting of the Joint Planning Group and attended the Antalya Diplomacy Forum held on April 17-19.
Fidan most recently traveled to Cairo on June 20-21 for the fourth meeting of the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Egypt is Türkiye’s largest trade and export partner in Africa. Trade between the two countries reached $8 billion in 2025, with a target of increasing it to $15 billion in the coming period.
The total value of Türkiye’s investments in Egypt exceeds $4 billion, while Turkish companies contribute to the employment of approximately 100,000 Egyptians in the country.
