Hamas Spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the movement continued its talks with mediators in Cairo today and that the meetings addressed topics related to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Qassem noted that so-called "Peace Council" representative Nikolay Miladinov also took part in the talks. He stated that the process is focused on clarifying the implementation steps of the agreement on the ground.
Hamas conveyed that it hopes a framework acceptable to everyone will emerge from the contacts and assessed that a broad basis for consensus was formed with the mediators in the latest talks.
The movement stressed that its participation in this process is a result of the positive approach it demonstrated in the recent meetings. It was noted that topics concerning the practical implementation of the ceasefire were prominent.
The contacts in Cairo are continuing following the official response Palestinian groups previously submitted to the mediators. In that response, the full implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire, a complete halt to military operations, the immediate enactment of the humanitarian protocol, and the uninterrupted entry of aid were demanded.
Palestinian groups also called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the administrative committee to begin its duties, and the reconstruction plan to be put into action.
The groups thanked Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts and reported that meetings are ongoing to monitor political and on-the-ground developments.
Next steps of the ceasefire on the table
At the center of the Cairo contacts is not only the declaration of the ceasefire but also how the agreement will be implemented. The parties in the talks appear to be focusing particularly on humanitarian aid, the opening of crossings, the cessation of military activity, and reconstruction.
The joint stance of the Palestinian groups is shaping up to ensure the agreement is not limited to certain clauses and that all its phases are implemented simultaneously. For this reason, the talks include technical issues that will determine the outcomes on the ground, alongside political topics.
The Hamas side argues that the continuation of contacts with mediators strengthens the possibility of consensus. The joint text of the Palestinian groups highlights the humanitarian dimension of the ceasefire.
