Houthi fighters on Sunday seized the home of Yemen’s parliament speaker Sultan al-Barakani in his hometown of Wadi al-Barakani, south of Taiz, after clashes with government forces, Yemeni sources told Sky News Arabia. Field sources told Al-Ain News that the Houthis took up positions in the house, located in the al-Maafer district.

The advance follows the group’s capture of the al-Samsara and al-Safiya areas south of Taiz, which cut the road between Taiz and Aden. Yemeni military sources said more than 80 people had been killed in airstrikes and clashes in Taiz province.
