Iran's Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Reza Akbari and Armenia's Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Simonyan discussed road transport cooperation at a meeting on Wednesday evening.
The meeting, also attended by representatives from the foreign and road ministries, addressed strengthening transit infrastructure and cooperation between the two countries.
Iranian official Reza Akbari mentioned a draft comprehensive memorandum of understanding prepared based on previous ministerial-level talks. Akbari explained that the draft focuses on areas such as infrastructure development, removing obstacles in border traffic, reducing or completely eliminating transit fees, and increasing the capacity of transit fleets passing through both countries' territories.
Noting the high trade volume with neighboring countries, Akbari said the Iran-Armenia-Georgia corridor could further strengthen regional trade links.
In a statement, the Armenian side expressed satisfaction with the expansion of economic and transport cooperation with Iran and noted progress in infrastructure projects. Armenian official Ghalechyan emphasized that the transit infrastructure to be developed and other measures will be effective in reducing drivers' problems, facilitating transit fleets, and improving border logistics.
