Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi announced that a preliminary agreement has been reached between Iran and Oman on almost all issues regarding the future regime of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement to Iran's official news agency IRNA, Garibabadi said the two countries have reached an agreement that includes determining entry and exit routes for maritime transport.
The Iranian official said, "This agreement does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened." Garibabadi underlined that the new arrangement is a model different from the practice of the last 60 years.
He stated that for a second phase to proceed, Iran needs to assess whether the US is genuinely ready to fulfill its obligations.
Garibabadi added that the ongoing negotiations between the two countries are also focused on "future administrative mechanisms" that will create a long-term framework for the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
