Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi shared details in a press briefing in New York about the exchange of messages with the United States through Qatar. Araghchi said he had met with Qatari officials the previous day and that they had exchanged views on meeting Iran’s conditions.

Araghchi said Qatar would convey Iran’s proposals to the United States and that they expected Washington to respond shortly. Saying that he would return to Tehran soon, Araghchi noted that decisions would be made in Tehran after the response was received.
He said the talks concerned the Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian foreign minister rejected reports that his country would make concessions on the nuclear issue. Araghchi said there had been no change in Iran’s position and that the nuclear issue was not discussed in the ongoing talks.

Araghchi said the discussions concerned the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He said the strait would be opened if the United States fulfilled Iran’s conditions.
He described Iran’s conditions as “fair and reasonable”
Araghchi said Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei had set conditions and linked the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to meeting them. Describing Iran’s demands as “fair and reasonable,” Araghchi argued that a path existed if the United States sought an agreement and a peaceful solution.

Araghchi reiterated that Iran’s position had not changed, contrary to some reports published by media outlets, and said the conditions put forward for opening the Strait of Hormuz were clear. He also said no talks had been held on flexibility.
Emphasis on diplomacy and military response
Araghchi reiterated that Iran was ready for both diplomacy and war. He said his country had responded militarily to the other side’s actions and that Iran was also pursuing a course in diplomacy consistent with its own approach.
In his remarks in New York, Araghchi said, “If the United States truly wants an agreement or a peaceful solution, we have presented them with a path. Our seven-point proposal was conveyed to the United States through the Qatari mediator. We hope the American side’s final response will reach us by tomorrow.” Araghchi argued that Iran was not isolated, contrary to the efforts of the United States and Israel, and said many countries wanted to maintain political and economic cooperation with Iran. He added that a significant portion of their meetings in New York had taken place at the request of the other parties.
