Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen said they targeted King Khalid Air Base in southern Saudi Arabia. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said dozens of ballistic missiles and drones were used in the attack.
Saree said the operation was carried out in response to more than 300 airstrikes that he alleged Saudi Arabia had conducted against various provinces in Yemen over the previous five days.
Targets at King Khalid Air Base
According to the Houthis’ statement, the attack targeted hangars housing fighter jets, radar systems, runways and ammunition depots, as well as other military facilities and infrastructure at the air base. King Khalid Air Base is located in the Khamis Mushait area of southern Saudi Arabia.
Saree claimed that the attacks had hit their targets and caused significant losses at the air base. There was no independent verification of the attack’s outcome.
Houthis say attacks will continue
Saree said operations against Saudi Arabia’s interior would continue as long as attacks on Yemen persisted, and announced that the Houthis would maintain their policy of retaliation. He said they would respond to escalation with escalation.
Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense issued a warning during the night about possible danger in the southern cities of Khamis Mushait, Abha, Jizan and Najran.
