Iran has taken a significant localization step in the petrochemical sector to boost its economic resilience against international sanctions. Hamid Saberfarzam, head of the Technology Commercialization and Knowledge-Based Employment Institution of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR), announced on the institution's 46th anniversary that over 2,000 petrochemical parts were brought into domestic production last year.
Domestic Production Against Sanctions
Saberfarzam stated that these previously imported parts were localized by ACECR technology experts. The parts, whose technical drawings and final documentation were completed and delivered to the petrochemical sector, paved the way for mass production by domestic manufacturers.
Self-Sufficiency Goal
The ACECR official announced that the institution has signed a contract to prepare a comprehensive self-sufficiency roadmap for Iran's petrochemical industry, and the project is ongoing. The move is seen as part of efforts to reduce the country's dependence on foreign sources in strategic sectors.
Expansion in Strategic Areas
Saberfarzam said the institution has also expanded its activities in agriculture. He noted that the Agricultural Research and Technology Center affiliated with ACECR is conducting work in livestock, agricultural inputs, fertilizers, and pesticides. The institution continues its work in other strategic areas such as defense, food security, and employment.
