Iran Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said in a speech at the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member Countries (PUIC) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, that the Islamabad Agreement documented the US defeat.
Ghalibaf stated in his speech that the agreement shows that dialogue yields results only when the other side abandons attempts to impose its will on a civilized nation. 'The Islamabad Agreement is the product not of pressure and coercion but of the resistance and strength of the brave Iranian people. That is why the Islamabad Agreement has become a declaration of US defeat,' he said.
40-Day War and Heavy Losses
The Iranian parliament speaker emphasized that the summit took place after a major attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran. 'The 40-day war imposed on Iran by the US and the Zionist regime was a criminal act,' he said.
Ghalibaf announced that in this war, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was martyred, numerous senior military and political officials lost their lives, and more than 3,000 Iranian citizens, mostly women and children, were killed. He stated that over 30,000 people were injured in the attacks, and targets included industrial, medical, educational, energy, and transportation infrastructure, as well as thousands of residential and service units.
The Cost of Resistance and Strategic Calculations
Saying that the determination of the Iranian armed forces and the people's resistance imposed heavy costs on the US and the 'fake Israeli regime,' Ghalibaf said, 'This resistance, born of faith, led the enemy to lose hope of achieving its goals and forced it to surrender both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.'
Arguing that the war was not just a military conflict but a coordinated attempt to change the strategic balance of the region, Ghalibaf conveyed that the planners of the attack believed they could force Iran to retreat through military pressure, blockade, psychological operations, and acts of terror. However, he stressed that the developments were the exact opposite of the war architects' calculations: 'The Iranian nation showed that the era of imposing will on independent nations is over, and the world admired this determination and victory.'
Future Vision and Call for Cooperation
Ghalibaf said that Iran sees the future of the region in interaction, not conflict; in coexistence, not destruction; in indigenous and collective security, not imported security. He stated that they are ready to expand cooperation with all Islamic countries on the basis of mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, good neighborliness, and shared interests.
The parliament speaker said that Iran supports initiatives aimed at establishing joint economic, trade, financial, scientific, and collective security mechanisms, and thanked the people of Azerbaijan, its parliament, and the PUIC secretariat for hosting the conference and facilitating dialogue among representatives of Muslim nations.
Within the framework of the 20th Conference of the PUIC, held under the theme 'Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development in OIC Member Countries through Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation,' Ghalibaf is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with numerous parliamentary delegations and officials from Islamic countries.
