Iran's Armed Forces Command issued a strong statement against the US, vowing a 'crushing response' for the attacks on the country's south. Mehr News Agency reported that the statement claimed the 'terrorist American military' violated its commitments and attacked Iranian territory.
The Command claimed that the attack took place at a time when Ayatollah Khamenei's body was being received by Iraqi officials and mourners in Najaf. Iran described the participation in the funeral ceremony as 'an unprecedented event in history' and asserted that it dealt 'a humiliating defeat to global arrogance and criminal America.'
The statement went on to issue a significant warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Armed Forces stated that they 'will deliver a crushing response to America's aggression and terrorist act and under no circumstances will allow interference in the affairs or management of the Strait of Hormuz.' It was reaffirmed that the only safe transit route for commercial vessels and oil tankers is the one designated by Iran.
