The wedding house in the village of Kuhestek in Sirik, Hormozgan province, sustained heavy damage in the attack on September 1. Iranian authorities, announcing the toll from the attack, said 5 people were killed and 67 injured.
The approximately 500-square-meter structure is no longer usable. As members of the household, with help from relatives, tried to remove the belongings that remained intact, the house where weddings were held became a house of mourning after the attack.
Missile and fire damage remained on the walls
Many of the house’s walls collapsed when a missile entered through the ceiling and struck one of the rooms. Traces of the fire that broke out during the attack can also be seen in different parts of the structure.
No one lives in the fire-damaged house apart from relatives of the owner. It was stated that the homeowners, as well as the bride and groom, did not want to return to the area because of the trauma they experienced and had gone to Bandar Abbas, about 200 kilometers from Sirik.
“The injured had fallen to the ground”
Şerife Zakirinevaz, who was at the wedding house on the night of the attack, said she had gone to the neighboring house when her grandchild became hungry. Zakirinevaz said she heard successive explosions while eating and then realized that the wedding house had been hit.
“I went to the house afterward and saw that 67 people had been injured and that the injured had fallen to the ground. My own daughter-in-law had also been wounded in the back of her neck. Small children had fallen to the ground. Everyone was shouting, ‘Cloths, water,’ to tend to the wounded. I immediately took water and cloths over. It was a very terrible moment.”
Fear continues in the area after the attack
Zakirinevaz said all the windows in her own house had shattered during the attack and that her family had been extremely frightened. Residents of the area said they could not sleep at night because of the ongoing attacks and were under intense stress.
