Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made an assessment regarding the agreement planned to be signed between his country and the US in Switzerland on Friday. Pezeshkian said it was an important step for the cessation of war and the start of negotiations.
However, Pezeshkian also stressed that there is not yet a final agreement. Stating that Iran is ready for all options, the President said the diplomatic process is ongoing.
Message of readiness as negotiation process continues
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also said the same day that talks towards a possible agreement would begin after the signing process is completed. Thus, the Tehran administration highlighted the message of readiness while keeping the diplomatic channel open.
Pezeshkian stated that the government's priority is to continue serving the people regardless of whether an agreement is reached or not.
Reference to recent tensions
Commentators noted that the recent wave of attacks, as well as the previous period of tension that began last June, occurred while Iran and the US were seeking a resolution. Iranian officials, citing these examples, argue that caution is needed against possible American betrayal in diplomatic procedures.
Pezeshkian's statement, on one hand, kept the possibility of an agreement alive, while on the other hand, it reinforced the message that Iran is prepared for any possible scenario.
