Iranian Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpur announced the toll from the US airstrikes in Iran. Kermanpur said 18 people were killed and 142 wounded in the attacks carried out between August 30 and September 2.
Iranian state media identified the military personnel killed as Amir Hossein Salimzadeh. Salimzadeh, a member of Iran’s naval forces, died on September 1 while serving in Khuzestan Province.
Deaths reported in four areas
The announced toll included four deaths in Sirik and seven in Khuzestan. Four members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force were killed in Kermanshah, while three Basij members died on Lavan Island.
At least 50 people were injured in the area of Sirik where a wedding ceremony was being held. The total number of injured was announced as 142.
Iran and the US exchanged attacks
Clashes in the region escalated again after a US attack on Larak Island on Sunday. The attack ended a pause in the fighting that had lasted about a month.
Washington said two Iranian launchers preparing to deploy naval mines by rocket were targeted during the operation.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later carried out attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq. US Central Command then conducted new airstrikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran on Tuesday night.
Agreement on Strait of Hormuz could not be implemented
The fighting resumed after the failure to implement the June 18 memorandum of understanding, which aimed to end the hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Disputes over its implementation led to the fighting resuming in July.
