Yemeni government forces announced that they had seized a shipment in the Red Sea containing Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicle parts allegedly destined for the Houthis.
Sadeq Dwaid, the military spokesman for the pro-government National Resistance Forces, said the operation on Sunday was aimed at protecting Yemen's territorial waters and cutting Iran's supply lines. Dwaid said the operation demonstrated the forces' state of readiness.
The shipment, intercepted by Yemen's naval forces, was said to contain parts and components used in the production and assembly of unmanned aerial vehicles. Dwaid said footage of the shipment would be released during the day.
The Houthis and Iran did not immediately comment on the seizure.
Military tensions continue in Yemen
Military tensions between Yemen's government forces and the Houthis have risen in recent weeks. The Houthis have controlled the capital, Sanaa, as well as several provinces and cities since September 2014.
Yemeni government forces receive support from a Saudi-led coalition, while Iran is accused of supporting the Houthis. The Houthis also announced in July that they had declared a naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia.
