Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed that two US ships, eight tankers and 10 other vessels were targeted in the Strait of Hormuz. The organization maintained that the action was carried out in response to the alleged US attack on five Iranian tankers in the Persian Gulf.
In a written statement issued on behalf of the Revolutionary Guards, it was claimed that the targeted vessels sustained heavy damage.
According to the statement, 10 vessels attempting to pass through an area described as a "prohibited zone" with the encouragement and support of the US military were also targeted.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards also maintained that control and surveillance in the Strait of Hormuz were the responsibility of its naval forces.
