Iraqi authorities said airstrikes completely destroyed eight Daesh hideouts in Kirkuk province.
The operation targeted the group’s remaining elements. Iraqi authorities said the operation was based on accurate and verified intelligence.
Air operation in Kirkuk
Information received by military intelligence units showed that Daesh members were located within the area of responsibility of the 11th Division, which is affiliated with the Kirkuk Operations Command.
In the operation conducted in coordination with the Iraqi Air Force Command, reconnaissance was first carried out in the area under the supervision and control of the targeting cell.
Following the reconnaissance, multiple concentrated airstrikes were carried out using Cessna Caravan aircraft. Iraqi authorities said the strikes completely destroyed eight hideouts belonging to the group.
Daesh’s presence in Iraq
Haider al-Abadi, Iraq’s prime minister at the time, declared victory over Daesh on December 10, 2017, following nearly three years of fighting.
However, Daesh-affiliated cells operate in parts of northern, western and eastern Iraq and occasionally carry out attacks. Iraqi forces continue security and military operations to track the group’s remnants.
