Iraqis celebrated the completed withdrawal of US-led coalition forces after 23 years, with troops parading through Baghdad and Najaf and night-time celebrations as a four-day holiday began on September 30, marked as National Sovereignty Day.

The last US troops left an air base in Erbil under an agreement between Baghdad and Washington. Iraq’s prime minister said the country was assuming full security responsibility, while some residents voiced concern that a security vacuum could be exploited by Daesh or armed groups outside state control.
The Iraqi Air Force also staged flyovers over Baghdad and other cities to mark the withdrawal of U.S. forces, with residents filming fighter jets passing over residential areas.
