Three Palestinian families in the West Bank town of Khusra have been stranded for three days because tents have blocked the road to their homes, while the Israeli army has decided to send an additional regular infantry battalion to the area.
The Israeli army said the decision was intended to strengthen order and operational control in Khusra. According to the army, Zamir conducted an assessment of developments in the town with several army commanders and instructed them to continue efforts to prevent serious incidents from recurring.
Israelis accused of seizing Palestinian land in Khusra blocked the road leading to the homes with tents. As a result, the three Palestinian families have been unable to leave their homes or obtain basic necessities for three days.
Families cut off from the rest of the town
Residents said the road closure was intended to force the families to leave their homes. The closure cut the families off from the rest of the town.
Yusuf Abdussalam, one of the Palestinians trapped in his home, said that he, his brother, and his parents, along with other relatives, had been unable to go outside for three days. Abdussalam said the families had been unable to obtain food and basic necessities.
Abdussalam said tents had been erected on the road to the homes to isolate residents of the area. The Israeli army removed one of the tents during the night, but about 200 people later gathered in the area and blocked the road with stones.
Fears that the homes will be raided
Abdussalam said the events had raised fears among the families that their homes would be raided or attacked. He alleged that the Israelis accused of seizing Palestinian land wanted to remove the families from their homes and take possession of them.
