Some homes in the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon, as well as in the surrounding valleys, were demolished with explosives by Israeli forces. Some homes were also burned.
Mansouri was subjected to two waves of airstrikes during the night. The sound of the explosions was also heard in the city of Tyre.
Lebanese officials condemn the attacks
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam described Israel’s attacks and demolitions targeting villages and towns in the south as serious violations of international law and international human rights.
Salam said it was illogical for the Israeli army to justify the demolitions on the grounds that “Hezbollah military facilities were present.”
The Lebanese army said the ongoing attacks in the south were preventing the army from deploying in the area and residents from returning to their homes.
Number of displaced people exceeds 1 million
The Israeli army launched intense airstrikes on Lebanon on March 2 and established control in many towns in the south. The Lebanese government said the number of people displaced within the country during this period had exceeded 1 million.
The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel took effect on April 17, but was extended several times afterward. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that 4,335 people had been killed in attacks carried out since March 2.
