The request to revoke the citizenship of Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, directors of NAZA, a documentary about Israel’s attacks in Gaza, is under review by Israeli authorities. The process began on Tuesday after an application by Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar.
Israel’s Channel 14 reported that Boaz Yosef, director general of the Population and Immigration Authority, said the agency was evaluating the application. According to agency sources, the review is limited to determining whether revoking the citizenship would be legally feasible; no practical decision has yet been made in that direction.
NAZA examines military operations in Gaza through soldiers’ testimonies
The film by Oscar-winning Israeli directors Abraham and Szor conveys allegations concerning the Israeli army’s actions in Gaza through testimonies by Israeli soldiers. It also includes information and testimonies about Israel’s bombing methods, military operations, surveillance technologies and the use of artificial intelligence to identify potential targets.
The name “NAZA” refers to an abbreviation used in Israeli military intelligence to indicate the expected number of civilians to be killed in an airstrike. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival on September 12.
More than 73,000 people have been killed and more than 174,000 injured in Israel’s attacks on Gaza since October 2023. The attacks have caused extensive destruction to approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
