Israeli actress Chile Goldberg criticized Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories during an interview with Israel’s Channel 13, believing that the conversation was taking place during a commercial break rather than live on air.
Goldberg said she was “no longer proud to be Israeli” and described the occupation of Palestinian territories after the 1967 war as a “sin.” She added that it took her generation about a decade to realize this and that minorities have the right to fight for their freedom.
One of the interviewers objected to her remarks, arguing that the right to resist does not justify killing civilians or soldiers. Goldberg stressed that her criticism did not mean she did not love Israel and described herself as a “great patriot.”
When she was told that the conversation had been broadcast live, she appeared shocked and said that no one had informed her and that it was “unacceptable.” She then apologized to viewers for the way she had expressed her opinion, describing herself as an impulsive and outspoken person. According to Türkiye’s TRT channel, the actress also said that “there is now Jewish terrorism.”
Reactions to her remarks were divided between critics and supporters.
Goldberg was born in Tel Aviv in 1954. She began her career as a model in her teens before turning to acting and is known for her role in the 1978 Israeli film “The Band” (Ha-Lahaka).
