Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega, who played Cesare Angelotti in Calgary Opera's production of "Tosca" in the Canadian province of Alberta, has been removed from the production after raising a Palestinian flag on stage at the end of the Oct. 16 performance, according to CBC News.
Calgary Opera described the act as "unexpected and unauthorized," said individual political protests violate the company's policy, and said Sanchez-Ortega would not appear in the remaining performances.

Sanchez-Ortega said he had "no regrets," adding that playing a political prisoner was a source of pride. "Political or not, we all have to go home after the show and look at ourselves in the mirror," he said.
