Reconstruction work continues in Syria after Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in December 2024, with footage broadcast by Turkish channel TRT Haber showing residential towers and construction projects underway in different parts of the country.
The footage shows cranes and heavy machinery operating at construction sites, concrete structures for multi-story towers and roads paved around the projects.
This comes as the Syrian government seeks to attract foreign investment to rebuild cities and infrastructure destroyed by years of war.
Cost exceeds $200 billion
The World Bank estimated in a report issued in October 2025 that the cost of rebuilding Syria would be around $216 billion, following a war that lasted more than 13 years and caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure and public facilities.
Turkish role in energy projects
Turkish companies are involved in several major projects. In May 2025, Syria signed a $7 billion agreement with a consortium comprising Qatar’s UCC Holding, Türkiye’s Kalyon and Cengiz companies, and the U.S. company Power International to build gas-fired power plants and a solar power plant.
Natural gas from Azerbaijan also began flowing to Syria in August 2025 through the Kilis–Aleppo pipeline, which runs from Türkiye, with the aim of improving electricity supplies in the country.
