The Israeli army detained 11 foreign activists who were helping Palestinian farmers harvest olives in Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank.
Palestinian volunteer organization Feza announced that the activists were detained while supporting Palestinian farmers picking olives in the village of Al-Buwayb, south of Hebron. The organization said the activists had been detained since yesterday morning.
The detainees include citizens of Italy, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. The Israeli army has not explained why it detained the activists.
Italy contacts authorities over four volunteers
According to Feza, Italy’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that four Italian women volunteers were among those detained. The ministry contacted Israeli authorities to clarify the volunteers’ situation.

The Italian volunteers took part in efforts to support Palestinian communities facing threats of attack from Israelis who seize Palestinian land. Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
Attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank
Following the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and Israelis who seize Palestinian land against Palestinians and their property have increased in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
During this period, Palestinians were killed and detained, while homes and other structures were demolished, mosques and vehicles were set on fire, farmland was damaged and farmers were prevented from accessing their land. The displacement of Palestinian communities and the expansion of settlements have also continued.
Palestinians warn that these practices are laying the groundwork for Israel’s formal annexation of the West Bank and weakening the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state in line with United Nations resolutions.
