Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun said the country was facing severe economic conditions and called on all sides in Lebanon to act responsibly to prevent regional turmoil from spilling over into the country.
Aoun made the call on Thursday while chairing a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Baabda, east of the capital Beirut. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also attended the meeting.
"The challenges facing the region are very serious. I hope this process does not lead to an escalation or an explosion."
The Lebanese president called on all sides to show "wisdom, awareness and restraint" to protect the country from the effects of developments in the region. He said everyone, including ministers and political officials, must act carefully to prevent tensions that may arise in the region from being brought into Lebanon.
Uncertainty surrounding tensions with Iran
Aoun’s remarks came as Western media reports that the United States and Israel were preparing a large-scale attack on Iran remained in the spotlight. The reports said the timing of the attack remained uncertain, while noting that parliamentary elections in Israel are scheduled for October 27 and midterm elections in the United States for November 3.

Message to Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Aoun also reiterated his solidarity with Saudi Arabia over attacks by the Houthis in recent months. The attacks took place as clashes between the Houthis and forces affiliated with Yemen’s government intensified.
The Lebanese president also thanked Qatar for its efforts to support the country’s energy sector. Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced on October 16 that a comprehensive framework for energy cooperation with Lebanon had been unveiled.
The framework includes a major investment project aimed at supporting Lebanon’s economic stability and providing long-term solutions to the chronic power cuts in the country.
