Thirty-three Palestinians were detained during operations in the occupied West Bank. The raids carried out by the Israeli army on Thursday extended across the areas of Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, Jenin, Tubas and Tulkarm.
According to the breakdown released by the Palestinian Prisoners Media Office, 17 people were detained in Nablus, 7 in Bethlehem, 3 in Hebron, 1 in Jenin, 2 in Tubas and 3 in Tulkarm.
The office said that dozens of homes were searched during the operations and that belongings in some homes were damaged.
Journalists and children among those detained
Journalists Sabri Musa Jibril and Muaz Ammarne were among those detained during raids in Bethlehem. Two children and other Palestinians who had previously been detained were also taken into custody during the operations.
The Palestinian Prisoners Media Office said one person who had previously been released was detained again after being released from custody several days earlier.
In Jenin, a unit affiliated with the Israeli special forces infiltrated the area around the Interior Ministry intersection and detained a person who had previously been arrested.
Raids continue in the West Bank
The Palestinian Prisoners Media Office described the detention campaigns, home raids and damage to property, as well as the targeting of journalists, children and people previously detained, as part of a policy of intimidation and detention directed at Palestinians.
Detention campaigns in the West Bank have continued alongside Israel’s intensifying raids and detention practices in the area following the war that began in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
During this period, raids and detentions in the West Bank increased, as did settler attacks and the demolition of Palestinian-owned homes and other structures.
Palestinians held in Israeli prisons
According to data from the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, more than 9,400 Palestinians, including 370 children and 92 women, are being held in Israeli prisons.
Human rights organizations report that some prisoners have been subjected to torture and medical neglect.
