While the framework agreement prepared under U.S. mediation remains in force, Israel continued its airstrikes and artillery fire against towns and areas in southern Lebanon.
Residential areas were targeted in the town of Mansouriyeh in the Tyre district, while a house in the Haris-Hadata area of the Bint Jbeil district was struck by two missiles and destroyed. Israeli artillery also fired at areas around the Marjayoun Plain, Wadi al-Hujeir, Wadi al-Saluki and Zuvaytir al-Sharqiya. No casualties were reported in the initial phase of these attacks.
Explosions in southern Lebanon
The latest attacks followed airstrikes, artillery fire and powerful explosions that began in several towns in southern Lebanon on Wednesday night. A major explosion occurred overnight in the town of Bani Hayyan in the Marjayoun district.
The Israeli army also carried out an explosion in the Ali al-Taher hills outside Nabatieh Governorate. The blast caused a powerful tremor and a loud noise in Nabatieh and its surrounding areas.
The Israeli army later said it had destroyed underground routes with a total length of more than 2 kilometers in the area. The army claimed that forces from the 36th Division had established "operational control" above and below ground in the Ali al-Taher hills and alleged that Hezbollah intended to use the tunnels.
Israeli army presence in southern Lebanon
In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the destruction of the tunnels had completed the "reorganization of the security zone" in southern Lebanon. The statement said the Israeli army would remain in the security zone.
The Lebanese army said it had recorded approximately 7,700 Israeli violations since the framework agreement was signed between Israel and Lebanon on June 26. The army said the continued violations threatened the existing understanding and arrangements.
The Lebanese army also said Israel had intensified its attacks on residential areas and institutions in recent days, causing deaths and injuries. According to the army, at least 12 people, including women and children, were killed in Kfar Rumman in the Nabatieh district.
The framework agreement provides for Israel’s gradual withdrawal from all occupied areas and the deployment of the Lebanese army in those areas. Israel has maintained its presence in southern Lebanon for decades in some areas and since the 2023–2024 war in others.
