Israeli settlers set fire to agricultural land in the village of Burqa, located in the central occupied West Bank. Around 10 dunams of olive groves were damaged in the attack on Friday.
Sayil Kenan, head of the Burqa Village Council, said that dozens of settlers attacked the village east of Ramallah. Kenan stated that the Israeli army blocked the main entrance to the village and numerous secondary roads during the attack, restricting Palestinian movement.
Kenan reported that the settlers started fires in agricultural areas in the southeastern part of the village, burning nearly 10 dunams of land planted with olive trees.
Witnesses: Army protected the attack
Witnesses reported that the Israeli army heavily deployed around the village during the assault and detained some Palestinian youths. It was noted that the settlers' attacks extended to the immediate vicinity of homes.
Witnesses indicated that clashes occurred between Palestinians and settlers, but no information was yet available on possible injuries or the extent of additional damage.
Rising tensions in the West Bank
According to official Palestinian figures, since October 8, 2023, attacks by the Israeli military and settlers in the West Bank have killed 1,173 Palestinians, injured 12,666, detained approximately 23,000, and displaced around 33,000 people.
Palestinians warn that these attacks are paving the way for Israel's formal annexation of the West Bank. It is stated that such a step would eliminate the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state in line with United Nations resolutions.
