The Israeli army announced that one of its soldiers was killed and seven others were injured in clashes in southern Lebanon. The army's brief statement identified the deceased soldier as 29-year-old Sergeant Major Alexander Filin.
According to the statement, among the injured were an officer, a reserve officer, and a reserve soldier who were moderately wounded. A combat sergeant, two reserve soldiers, and a female reserve soldier sustained minor injuries.
Drone Attack in Lebanon
Lebanon's official news agency reported that a drone attack targeted a vehicle in the southern Kfar Tebnit area, killing one person and seriously injuring another.
The report noted that the attack came after an agreement signed between the US and Iran aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
The agreement signed by Washington and Tehran on Wednesday seeks to halt frontline clashes. Nevertheless, Israel's efforts to maintain its presence in Lebanon have emerged as a new source of tension in the region.
Rising Toll in the Region
Lebanon was drawn into the conflict after the Iran-backed Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel on March 2 in support of Iran. Since then, thousands have died in Israeli attacks, with a fragile ceasefire in place but attacks on the ground continuing.
Lebanese authorities report that over 3,800 people have died so far due to Israel's extensive airstrikes and ground operations. The Israeli side states that since the start of the ground operation in Lebanon, 31 soldiers and one civilian contractor have lost their lives.
The Beirut administration says more than 10,000 people have been injured in the attacks and over one million have been displaced within the country. The United Nations has reiterated calls to stop the attacks in Lebanon and highlighted the deepening humanitarian crisis there.
