Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekyan-Shahin made important statements at a ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and holy sites held in Amman, the capital of Jordan. The minister said that occupied Jerusalem is facing the most dangerous phase of Israeli attacks.
Aghabekyan-Shahin pointed out that while Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip continue, violations and actions in Jerusalem and the West Bank are intensifying. The minister stated that the Palestinian people in Gaza are being subjected to genocide, and that steps to implement the illegal settlement policy in occupied Jerusalem are also accelerating.
Urgent Call to the International Community
The Palestinian minister called on the international community to take action to stop Israel's actions and violations in Jerusalem. He stressed the need for a 'joint rescue plan' with clear implementation mechanisms to protect Jerusalem and sustain the presence of Palestinians on their land.
Aghabekyan-Shahin said that the tragedies in Jerusalem have continued for 70 years because Israel has not been held accountable for its actions, and added, 'Today, the speed of implementation of this policy and Israel's confidence that it will not pay any political, diplomatic or economic price for it have changed.'
Legal Status of East Jerusalem
The minister once again affirmed that East Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories. He stressed that any attempts to recognize or legitimize Israel's declared sovereignty over Jerusalem are invalid under international law.
The meeting in Amman was attended by high-level representatives from Turkey, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Bahrain, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Somalia and Malaysia, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League.
