Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed support for the Palestinian cause in a phone call with Hamas Political Bureau Chief Khalil al-Hayya. Pezeshkian stated that Iran would support any measure, initiative, or decision Palestinian leaders take in the ongoing negotiations.
According to a written statement from the Iranian Presidency, Pezeshkian congratulated al-Hayya on his new role and emphasized that the Palestinian issue is one of the top priorities of the Islamic world and an unchanging principle of Iran's foreign policy.
Pezeshkian said, 'Iran will always stand by the oppressed Palestinian people and provide them with all possible support.' The Iranian president noted that they appreciate the Palestinian people's resistance against the crimes committed by Israel, and he praised al-Hayya's role and leadership in coordinating among Palestinian groups.
Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, for his part, thanked Iran for its continuous support to the Palestinian people during the call. Al-Hayya described Israel as the main source of instability and insecurity in the region.
Al-Hayya stated that Hamas is conducting negotiations in coordination with other Palestinian groups, and said, 'We will not allow Israel to achieve through diplomacy what it failed to achieve on the battlefield.' He called for benefiting from the experience of Iran and Iranian officials to protect the interests of the Palestinian people during the negotiation process.
Pezeshkian also highlighted the importance of strengthening unity, solidarity, and rapprochement among Islamic countries during the call.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 31 that the 'Peace Council' had reached a historic agreement on Hamas laying down its weapons in the Gaza Strip, and that Israel would withdraw its troops from Gaza after the disarmament is completed.
Hamas and Palestinian groups, for their part, reported that they view positively the mediators' proposals to advance the negotiation process and complete the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
