Jordan's King Abdullah II and Iraqi President Nizar Amedi discussed continuing work on the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline in a phone call covering bilateral ties and regional developments. According to the Royal Hashemite Court, the two leaders stressed that the project serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The project would carry Iraqi crude from Basra to export facilities at Jordan's Red Sea port of Aqaba. Its framework agreement was signed in April 2013, with the aim of diversifying Iraq's oil export routes and meeting part of Jordan's crude needs.

The project has gained importance as the Strait of Hormuz crisis hits Iraqi oil exports and Baghdad looks for alternative routes to protect its exports and oil revenue.
