The Jordanian army shot down a drone that violated its airspace in the eastern desert region. It was announced that elements of the Royal Air Force successfully destroyed the aircraft after detecting it near the Iraqi and Saudi borders.
A written statement from the Jordanian Armed Forces did not disclose any information about the drone's origin or mission. The incident took place early on Tuesday.
Just a few hours before this intervention, the Israeli military also announced that it had intercepted a separate drone near the Jordanian border. Israeli officials noted that the aircraft did not enter Israeli airspace and that the launch point was being investigated.
A similar incident had occurred in the region on Monday. While the Israeli military reported stopping two drones near the Jordanian border, the Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed that they had shot down these aircraft for violating their airspace.
This series of airspace violations appears linked to escalating regional tensions following renewed clashes between Iran and the United States earlier this month. Attacks carried out by Iran that killed two U.S. soldiers in Jordan had further heightened the kingdom's security concerns.
The Amman administration frequently emphasizes that there are no foreign military bases in the country. However, it also acknowledges that a limited number of foreign troops are deployed at certain facilities under bilateral cooperation and training agreements.
The latest drone intervention shows that Jordan remains on high alert against cross-border aerial threats.
