Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that a plot reportedly targeting a critical facility in the country was thwarted before it could be carried out and that a Kuwaiti citizen described as an ISIS member was arrested.
The facility targeted by the plot was not identified. Security units arrested the suspect before the plan could be implemented.
The suspect’s training
An investigation conducted by the ministry found that the suspect had received training in making explosives and unmanned aerial vehicles. The statement said the suspect had built an unmanned aerial vehicle to use as part of the plot.
Legal proceedings were initiated against the suspect, who was referred to the competent authority to complete the investigation.
Previous investigation in Kuwait
Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior had announced in recent months that it had thwarted several plans described as “dangerous” and said to have targeted critical facilities in the country, and had arrested people linked to those plans.
On April 11, the ministry also announced that it had thwarted a plan reportedly intended to finance “terrorist organizations and entities” and had arrested 24 people linked to the case.
As part of the same investigation, eight Kuwaiti citizens living abroad were identified, and one of them had their citizenship revoked. The ministry said the group collected money under religious pretexts, took receipt of the funds and held them for transfer from abroad.
The ministry’s security statement
The Ministry of Interior said it would continue to identify in advance and combat activities or plans that could threaten the country’s security and stability.
The statement said firm action would be taken within the legal framework against activities that threaten the security of the country, its citizens and people living there.
