Lebanese President Aoun traveled to the area the day after Israel attacked the Ali al-Taher Hills in the Nabatieh region of southern Lebanon and said there would be no new negotiations with Israel.
Aoun’s delegation included Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Rudolf Haykal and the heads of the security agencies. The delegation visited Nabatieh, the center of the attacks, and the nearby town of Western Zawtar.
Three core principles outlined by Aoun
The Lebanese president said they were determined to secure the withdrawal of the Israeli army from southern Lebanon, the return of Lebanese detainees and displaced people to their homes, and the implementation of reconstruction.
Aoun said the visit was carried out to demonstrate that the state stood with the people of southern Lebanon.
Military activity after the attack
The Israeli army carried out a large-scale attack on the Ali al-Taher Hills to destroy tunnels it claimed belonged to Hezbollah. The attacks used 1,100 tons of explosives and the blasts caused tremors measuring 4.1 in magnitude.
Following the explosions, the Israeli army withdrew from the Ali al-Taher Hills toward the Shakif Castle area, while the route of the Yellow Line remained unchanged. The Israeli army also said attacks on the hills would continue.
Claim of talks in Rome
Regarding the talks alleged to be scheduled between Israel and Lebanon in Italy’s capital, Rome, on September 15-16, Aoun said: “There are currently no new negotiations with Israel.”
Israel’s state television claimed on September 10 that the eighth round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon would be held in Italy on September 15-16. The round planned for next week was also said to have been postponed.
