US actor Mark Ruffalo has leveled serious accusations against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ruffalo targeted Netanyahu on social media after the Israeli premier welcomed the dismissal of International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan.
In his post on X, Ruffalo stressed that Khan's dismissal would not erase the war crimes Israel is accused of committing in Gaza, saying: "You cannot escape justice. You cannot influence history. You are a maniacal killer, Benjamin Netanyahu. You will always be remembered this way."
Karim Khan's dismissal process
ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan had requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in May 2024. In May 2025, he voluntarily took leave after sexual harassment allegations against him surfaced.
An independent panel appointed by the court concluded in its March review that it "found no misconduct or breach of duty" by Khan. However, the Bureau of the ICC Assembly of States Parties, at its June 8 meeting, decided that Khan had "seriously abused" his office and temporarily removed the chief prosecutor.
In a secret ballot on July 24, the Assembly of States Parties voted by an absolute majority to remove Karim Khan from office under Article 46 of the Rome Statute, citing "serious misconduct and breach of duty." Khan's lawyers argued that he was denied the right to a defense during the voting process and that the procedure was unlawful.
Karim Khan was elected as ICC Chief Prosecutor in February 2021 and was sworn in on June 16, 2021.
