British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband responded to Israel’s announcement that the British Consulate General in Jerusalem had ceased to function, saying: "East Jerusalem is occupied territory."
Following talks with the Israeli government, he said, "our Consulate General building will not be closing, and will be known from today as the UK Mission, Jerusalem." He added: "We will continue to deliver vital services and our work with the Palestinian people."

Miliband said Britain stands firmly behind the measures it took with the international community on Sept. 8 in support of a two-state solution that delivers peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians.
