Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita called for the ceasefire in Gaza to be maintained and for humanitarian aid to reach the region in sufficient quantities without interruption.
Speaking at the 81st United Nations General Assembly general debate in New York on Tuesday, Bourita said the tragedy experienced by the Palestinian people was continuing. The Moroccan minister said the ceasefire in Gaza must be respected and humanitarian aid must be allowed to enter.
Morocco will join the international force in Gaza
Bourita announced that Morocco would directly participate in the international stabilization force to be established for Gaza. He said senior officers would be sent to the internal security forces and that Palestinian police officers would be trained. He also announced that a military field hospital would be established.
Bourita said Morocco also planned to organize initiatives to combat extremism. He stated that lasting peace requires the establishment of an independent and territorially intact Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem, under occupation, as its capital.
Warning over the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque
Reaffirming Morocco's support for the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, Bourita expressed deep concern over Israeli practices in the West Bank.
Bourita said laws enabling the confiscation of land to expand settlements, along with violence against Palestinian civilians, aimed to displace the population and weaken the material foundation of an independent Palestinian state.
The Moroccan minister also warned that unilateral Israeli actions violating the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque were fueling extremism throughout the region.
Deaths and ceasefire violations in Gaza
Israeli army attacks on Gaza since October 2023 have killed approximately 74,000 Palestinians and injured more than 174,000 people. About 90 percent of the region's infrastructure has been destroyed.
Israel has also violated the agreement on a daily basis since the ceasefire took effect on October 10.
