The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society called on the international community to secure the release of Palestinian children held by Israel and end the conditions to which they are being subjected. The society said that more than 2,000 Palestinian children had been detained since October 2023 and that at least 350 children were being held in harsh conditions.
The society said that six more children were detained by the Israeli army on the evening of Oct. 13 in the towns of Sa’ir and ash-Shuyukh in Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank.
Allegations concerning the conditions in which children are held
The society said Palestinian children were increasingly being subjected to threats, detention, torture, deprivation of food, isolation and denial of access to medical care.
The society said thousands of people, including children, were missing in Gaza and alleged that enforced disappearances were continuing. It said the number of children held in detention in Gaza remained unknown.
The society said administrative detention allows Palestinians to be held without being presented with a clear charge or given a release date. It argued that the practice leaves children in uncertainty and disrupts their family lives and education.

The society alleged that Israeli courts also contribute to the continuation of violations against children in the absence of an effective accountability mechanism.
Examples concerning the health of two children
The society’s statement also included details about the case of Palestinian child Velid Ahmed, who died at Israel’s Megiddo Prison in March 2025. It said medical records showed that Ahmed had lost a significant amount of weight before his death and exhibited signs of malnutrition and dehydration.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society argued that the closure of Ahmed’s case raised questions about accountability.
Fifteen-year-old Muhammed Hamid contracted scabies while held at Israel’s Ofer Prison, and his health gradually deteriorated, the society said. Hamid suffered severe infections affecting his vital organs, underwent heart surgeries and was placed in intensive care in critical condition. His leg was later amputated.
The society said Israeli authorities released Hamid after his health deteriorated and that the child had been receiving treatment for approximately three months. The society argued that the process could be viewed as an attempt by Israel to evade responsibility for Hamid’s treatment.

Call to the international community
The society called on the international community to release children held arbitrarily, end the practice of administrative detention, stop attempts to obtain confessions under pressure, and prevent torture and starvation.
The society also said that detained children’s access to medical care must be guaranteed. It called for concrete action and an end to impunity, rather than limiting the response to documenting and condemning violations.
Situation in Gaza and the West Bank
The society said Israel began its attacks on Gaza in October 2023 with the support of the United States. It said tens of thousands of Palestinians had been killed or wounded in the attacks and that approximately 90 percent of civilian infrastructure had been destroyed.
The society said attacks by the Israeli army and Israelis who had seized Palestinian land had also increased in the occupied West Bank since October 2023. It said raids, detentions, shootings, home demolitions, the seizure of Palestinian land and the establishment of new settlements were continuing.
