Following a briefing at the Ashdod Naval Base with Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and naval commanders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made remarks on Israel’s maritime security.
Arguing that maritime areas had effectively become an international war zone, Netanyahu cited the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait as examples. He alleged that Israel’s maritime areas in the Mediterranean, its ports and sea traffic were under threat.
Netanyahu calls for more naval assets
Netanyahu said he had heard from security officials that they needed more equipment. The Israeli prime minister said the sixth submarine had arrived in Israel and stated that more submarines needed to be acquired.
Netanyahu also said more ships and other naval vessels, the details of which he did not want to disclose, were needed. He argued that Israel would be protected from the sea both underwater and on the surface.

Claims about Israel’s and Türkiye’s submarine capabilities
Israel has allegedly been closely monitoring the strengthening of the Turkish Naval Forces in the submarine field and preparing to expand its submarine fleet with new, German-built, technologically advanced vessels.
As part of these claims, Türkiye was alleged to have 14 operational submarines, with plans to increase that number to 18. It was also alleged that Israel had six submarines and that Israeli defense officials had recommended increasing the fleet to eight submarines.
Claims about the U.S. military presence in the Middle East
The U.S. military allegedly has approximately 3,000 personnel stationed in various parts of Israel. These personnel are allegedly serving in air defense, piloting, support, logistics and military headquarters roles.
While routine personnel rotations are taking place because the deployment periods of some units in the region are ending, additional troops and aircraft are allegedly expected to be sent to Israel in the coming weeks in preparation for possible tensions in the Middle East.

The Israeli military is allegedly continuing its preparations for the possibility of a new conflict with Iran or a rapid escalation in the region, including work on potential targets in Iran in the event of a possible large-scale conflict.
Military coordination between Israel and the U.S. Central Command is allegedly continuing under various scenarios, including possible missile attacks from Iran. Claims have also emerged that the United States is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East amid rising tensions and deploying additional troops and naval assets to the region.
Netanyahu comments on preparations for an attack
Netanyahu had previously argued that preparations for an external attack on Israel were underway and that he had received indications to that effect ahead of the general elections planned for October 27.
Netanyahu did not provide details about who might carry out the possible attack, and the opposition viewed his remarks as a political maneuver. Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir also canceled a planned visit to the United States because of the security situation in the country and the army’s placement on high alert across all fronts.
